The organization FACT (Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy) was established in 1996 with the explicit task of inspecting agencies and verifying programs in the field of cell therapy, thus establishing the highest standards in clinical and laboratory activities.
The non-profit organization NetCord is established 2 years later in 1998 to:
- Create an effective communication network for finding compatible cord blood (UCB) transplant units,
- Promote high standards for the operation of cord blood banks, and
- Support research and clinical studies in this area.
The two organizations begin to work together the following year, in 1999, with the ground breaking publication establishing the highest quality standards for the collection, processing, storing, and releasing UCB units. To this day, FACT-NetCord remains the most reliable accreditation organization bor UCB banks.
